Report it
We're tracking OMB in Wellington so we can locate it and keep track of what's been controlled and what's left to do!Â
We're keen to get your sightings, ideally through iNaturalist or Find-A-Pest, but if that's not for you, you can report via our form (below).
Using iNaturalist
The best place to record your observations is via the iNaturalist app. Not only will your observation be peer reviewed to give you the confidence it is OMB, but you'll also be contributing to citizen science. This provides an aggregate view of where the OMB is across Wellington.

When adding it to iNaturalist, please check, and move if required, the location on the map so it is accurate. This helps other people find the plant to control it. The GPS isn't always that accurate.
Adding your observation to the Weed Management Aotearoa NZ project and filling in relevant fields will give us the best data to control it with. You can also update previous observations as you control them or hunt for them. See our user guide for details.
Your observation will automatically be added to the Old Man's Beard Free Wellington project.
If you're starting or running a group, see our advice on administering iNaturalist.
Using Find-A-Pest
Find-A-Pest is a new app that provides a simple way to report pest weeds and other pests in NZ. It works with the iNaturalist platform, but ensures that all the right agencies get the information on the pest species they are responsible for. Find-A-Pest is a collaborative project across New Zealand covering all pest species.
After installing it, select Weeds, click on Old Man's Beard and upload a photo; or just use the blue camera button in the app to easily send in an observation of any suspected pest.
Adding location notes to the description will help us find the plant.
